Organic fruit and veg delivery
FAQ
Why is The Farmshed so great?

The FarmShed wants to make a difference to your lifestyle - to help you eat healthier whilst looking after the environment through our carbon zero delivery service.

We don't hug trees, we plant trees! Although we have a number of recycling initiatives we also support The Sand Martin Wood project in Cumbria, planting trees to offset our own inevitable carbon footprint.

We are here to support British Farmers and work closely with them making sure they get treated fairly, producing the best quality produce possible.

Why Organic?

1. It's healthy
On average, organic food contains higher levels of vitamin C and essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium as well as cancer-fighting antioxidants.

2. No nasty additives
Organic food doesn't contain food additives which can cause health problems such as heart disease, osteoporosis, migraines and hyperactivity. Amongst the additives banned by the Soil Association are hydrogenated fat, aspartame (artificial sweetener) and monosodium glutamate.

3. Avoids pesticides
Over 400 chemical pesticides are routinely used in conventional farming and residues are often present in non-organic food. The UK government has recently found high levels of pesticide residues in baby food, spinach, dried fruit, bread, apples, celery, and chips.

4. No GM
Genetically modified (GM) crops and ingredients are not allowed under organic standards.

5. Reliance on drugs removed
There is growing concern about the high use of antibiotics on farm animals and the possible effects on human health. Soil Association standards prohibit the routine use of antibiotics.

6. No hidden costs
Compare this with the £120m that tax payers fork out to pay for removing chemicals from drinking water, mainly as a result of the pesticides used in farming.

7. High standards
Organic food comes from trusted sources. All organic farms and food companies are inspected at least once a year. The standards for organic food are laid down in European law.

8. Care for animals
Animal welfare is taken very seriously under organic standards. The benefits of the organic approach are acknowledged by animal welfare organisations such as Compassion in World Farming as well as the UK government.

9. Good for wildlife and the environment
The UK government has said that organic farming is better for wildlife, causes lower pollution from sprays, produces less carbon dioxide - the main global warming gas - and less dangerous wastes.

10. Top for taste
Many people prefer organic food because they say it tastes better. A number of top chefs choose organic, and every year many are involved in the Soil Association's organic food awards.

Why should I buy from The Farm Shed and not just buy my produce at the supermarket?

Easy

We appreciate our producers.

We support and work closely with small independent producers.

We promote seasonal produce from within the UK.

Just because something doesn't look a pretty shape doesn't mean it doesn't taste great.

All our food is not just organic but ethical, natural and is really tasty stuff.

Your shopping will take care of itself and no need to queue (we don't like queues).

You can feel proud about how you shop.

Pick a Box

We have a number of boxes to choose from so there should be one that suits your needs. This can be delivered as often as you like from weekly to monthly, depending on how much you eat! Having your box delivered regularly enables us to plan ahead with the farmers so they can plan their crops.

Make your box your own!

You may like having an apple everyday with you lunch or a banana before the gym. If this is the case then you can order additional products to come with your delivery to see you through the week. We all know how important eating 5 fruit & veg a day is, which is why we have teamed up with the NHS 5 a Day campaign to encourage people to "just eat more" (fruit & veg!)

Don't forget we also have an extensive range of other organic products from Marvelous Meat and Fantastic Fish to Delightful Dairy and our Delicious Deli!

What if you don't deliver to my area?

We will take note of your name and postcode and will contact you when we start delivering in your area.

What if there is something in the box I don't like?

Just tell us we don't mind.

Next time you log in just change the product you're not keen on and next time we will put something in your box which you do like, simple.

I have a vegetable in my box which looks like its from another planet, what shall I do with it?

Put it back on it's spaceship and send it back! Just kidding...

To help you out with getting the most out of your vegetables (even the funny looking ones) we have recommended some recipes and ways of preparing them. Just click on the recipes link.

Also we love good food so if you have a recipe you want to share with us please email it to us and if it tastes as good as you say we'll put it on our website. There is a prize for the best recipe every month.

If there is something in your box you are not happy with get in touch and we will replace the item the following week free of charge or credit your account. We do our upmost to provide you with the best quality produce possible by working close with our suppliers but if anything slips through into our boxes we need to know so we can try not to let it happen again.

Something is missing from my box?

Sometimes we have to make last minute replacements in our boxes as supply of certain produce cannot be guaranteed for many reasons like weather for example. You will be able to tell this is the case by checking your receipt which is included in the box. If we have made a mistake we will either replace the item the following week free of charge or credit your account.

Do I get a receipt?
Yes. Your receipt is emailed to you automatically at least 24 hours before your delivery. If you do not receive a receipt it may mean we have had a problem taking payment, in which case we will contact you directly.

How is the Meat & Fish priced?
The meat and fish prices quoted on the website are an average price based on the average weight shown. Although the price should not change significantly, there will inevitably be a price and weight difference either up or down.

What if there is something in my box which I didn't order?

Sometimes we have to replace certain items due to unforeseen circumstances like the weather. For example if Farmer Jack who grows our cabbage can't get onto his field one day because it is so wet, we will have to replace this with another item. Please note we will do our best to give you what you asked for but things can change at the last minute that we can't control no matter how hard we try. And we do try hard!

I think I have somebody else's order?

Please check your order against your delivery receipt and your account by logging onto our website. If we have made a mistake please call us.

Any other problems just give us a call, we'll be happy to talk to you!
